Q: What phobias have you struggled with? p.103 #603
A: Phobias…. Oh man… I’m a nervous person in general. I’ll just mention a couple of my major phobias on here.
1) Narrow streets/narrow space. It just freaks me out. I always hate driving down a narrow street… I get really nervous about someone suddenly jumping in front of my car and getting hit, someone opening the car door when passing by (when cars are parked on the narrow road…), a random biker/skateboarder crossing the street, an animal running down the road, etc. Most people don’t notice this, but I have a mini-panic attack around narrow places…
2) Dark, empty places… without people. I will totally freak out and start to get really anxious when I walk into an empty place without anyone around. I will randomly start blabbing or singing to overcome this fear. Don’t pull a prank on me like this or I’ll probably have a heart attack and die at the scene haha (not to mention, I have heart conditions).
3) Bugs… Except for a couple of exceptions: ladybugs and some types of beetles. I will freaking jump and scream for my life in the middle of a conversation if I see a bee… Haha.
So yeah, there you have it! My greatest phobias. They all sound kind of dumb, don’t they? What are your phobias?
Q: p23 #52. Have you ever purchased anything from a telemarketer? If so, what was it? If not, why didn’t you?
A: Haha no, I haven’t… I got to admit - I’m a big jerk when it comes to answering telemarketers call. I’m terrible with answering calls on time in general… Not to mention, I don’t really answer calls from numbers that I don’t know. But on days I do and it’s a telemarketer on the other end, I usually just hung up the phone… So that would be the reason why lol.
Sooooooooooooo here’s the random question of the day!
As a child, what was your idea of fun?
For some reason, I cannot remember much from my childhood before age ~7… It’s like I got brainwashed or something. But I sometimes have random flashbacks.
Well anyways.. I think my idea of fun as a child was going to school and playing with my friends. Both of my parents were off to work and I hardly got to spend time with them during the day. I was almost always home alone during day time. So going to school was fun for me back then! Also, I remember going to downtown with my mom & eating delicious street food and shopping (cannot remember the specifics), which was extremely fun :) I remember having a lot of good times with my mom.
“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.”—Mother Teresa
Have you ever wondered about why I’m obsessed with black and white photographs? Well, apparently you’re not alone on that… A few of my friends asked me this question: “Why do you like everything black and white?” Like most of you already know, I’m not a huge fan of colors: I love almost everything black and white, and everything in between.
As banal as it might sound/look, black & white colors actually have the full potential to exemplify beauty, perhaps more to a certain extent. But this doesn’t necessarily mean I hate colors! I’m not trying to negate the beauty of colors; I actually do occasionally appreciate colors. However, there’s a specific reason why I sometimes value black/white more than other colors, especially in a photograph or a painting.
What I want to see in a photograph/painting is what’s really captured in the photo, not the surrounding. I believe that colors deceive the values of a picture to a certain degree; it makes the photo look more impressive than it really is. Colors have the capability to turn a banal photograph without much quality into a perfect picture; they are what blindfold our judgement for that picture. What we have to examine are the subtleties in a photograph: appreciate the meaning and the beauty behind what we actually see; conceptually speaking, we must feel the photograph and discover the meaning of it - we need to walk into the artist’s/photographer’s shoes in order to actually understand and truly appreciate the picture.
When you have a colorful photograph with enhanced colors, you are going to appreciate the colors of that picture - not the photograph itself. I personally believe that what we see on the outside shouldn’t be what we judge upon because what we often times just see on the surface is artificial and/or idealized. We must break such shallowness and must discover the inner meaning of the picture - we must dig in deeper.
Now, this doesn’t only apply to photographs - it can apply to everything else we see in life. This is how I visualize most of the things in the world. What I really like about black and white photograph/painting is for its potential to dig in deeper into its genuine beauty and the quality of what’s really captured in the picture. I want to be emotionally pulled into that painting or photograph and embrace the raw dimensions of beauty in that picture. I want to appreciate that picture for it’s genuine beauty in the meaning and expression.
When I pick up a black and white photograph, what I like to look for these two things: what’s really captured, and the meaning behind it…
I try to determine what the photographer/artist wanted to “say” in the picture. Most photographers/artists try to capture a subtle meaning in their work. We need to stop whatever we are doing and focus on that one picture - just that picture - and decipher the inner meaning of it - think outside the box. We have to think about why he/she took this picture the way he/she did.
Now, this doesn’t only apply to paintings/photographs - it can be applied to everything we see in life. This is how I like to visualize most of the things in the world. For example, I don’t want to be judged for how I look; I want to be appreciated for who I am on the inside - my personalities, beliefs, or values that I might hold. I want to be appreciated for who I am. This is why I like to wear black and white clothes. I don’t want someone to like me for what kind of clothes or the color of clothes I wear - I want someone who will appreciate me for my personality/values that I hold beneath the surface… because what I wear is what I am on the surface. It doesn’t tell anyone about who I really am. Sincerity is what I value, and I want others to value me for sincere reasons. We must learn & understand someone in order to truly build on relationships. Same goes for any painting/photos…
What I really like about black and white photograph/painting is for it’s genuine beauty and the quality of what’s really captured in the picture. I want to be emotionally purged into that painting/photograph and stand on the same ground with the artist/photographer - embrace the raw dimensions of beauty in that picture. I want to appreciate that picture for its genuine beauty in the meaning and expression. I want to feel the passion of the photographer and feel the emotions captured inside; the feeling of catharsis/energy is what I desire to capture. I want to be a part of that picture. These would be the determinants in what makes a photograph/painting so distinct and beautiful; at least for me, they are.
Appreciating a picture just by its looks on the surface is almost as futile as skimming through 1000s of artworks at an art exhibition.
So there you have it - my explanation/philosophy on why I appreciate black and white so much… :)
so for some reason i can't reply to your posts, but they're cute!
i like how random your very first post is, thanks for mentioning me. you can even put in a link to my blog if you want to haha
also, i love how we blog as if we have millions of followers..
oh! i just realized that my posts were on lock! haha i fixed it :) ahh thank you! your posts are very cute too! i’m glad you saw that! i’ll go add a link to your page! lol… we’re just preparing for the future!
But before even introducing myself, I need to mention who inspired me to start blogging… My dear friend Diana! You should definitely check out her awesome blog: http://dallyingwithdestruction.tumblr.com/ Now that I understand how an actual “blog” works, I’ll take a stab at it. Ya ready for this?
Now I’ll introduce myself…
I’ll try to make this concisely as possible… So how about a list?
Well… First things first: my name is Eunice.
In short, I am…
a college student struggling to get through…
a part-time tutor! I love my job and the kids that I tutor :) It’s such an astounding experience
REALLY random at times… random stuff that most people don’t even care about suddenly pops up into my mind and I start talking about it… I think blogging is really nice now that I think about it! It’s like a place where I can just dump out my random ideas/thoughts about stuff you usually don’t really talk about!
a music lover… Not just love - INTENSE love. Ever heard about music therapy? Music helped me get through life in so many ways! What kind of music? Mostly alternative rock and other types of “hard” rock. Some of my ultimate favs: Linkin Park, Chevelle, Atreyu, Breaking Benjamin, 10 Years, Hurt, etc. I also adore techno/trance like Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Bassnecter, Deadmau5, etc. Did I make any music buddies yet?
a coffee lover. The intense aroma with intricate complexions and taste… I just ADORE coffee. Coffee used to be my LIFE. It got me through middle and high school without much trouble! Coffee saved my life. Now I have limitations on how much I can drink it, but I still appreciate every single sip of it :) The only downturn to coffee is heartburns/ulcer… I had an ulcer once, and it was one of the worst experiences I had! However, that doesn’t the romance between me and coffee… because we together unite. Coffee still completes my life. Is there any coffee lovers out there who wants to give me a shout out? ;)
a disorganized/forgetful person. Don’t ask me to remember certain things or dates and stuff like that! I can guarantee you that I will lose/forget it.. I just like to follow the Second Law of Thermodynamics: spontaneous reactions in the universe go from order —> disorder. Same goes for my room… I guess I’m energy efficient?
a night owl! I don’t really go to bed until 2-4 in the morning! It’s a habitual kind of thing… What do I do? I’m sooo productive at night! I sit, stare at the wall or ceiling or painting or whatever and think about random stuff for hours! In terms of school work, my productivity drops by 5x by 2 in the morning.
admirer. I admire a lot of things/people for the most random reasons…
enthusiastic writer! w/huge outburst of energy and emotions…on good days ;)
not always this jumpy and random, I promise! I’m just feeling very ecstatic about this post lol… But on most days, I’m a dead-serious type of a person, who doesn’t really talk all that much. Hard to imagine, right?
…overall, an interesting mix of fun/seriousness/thoughtfulness/imperfections/awesomeness!
NOW, who’s still up for a ride?
…a ride to awesome adventures of my life, inner thoughts, and random mind dump?
My goal of this blog: 1 post/day minimum… :)
What I’ll be posting:
Random thoughts & random talk in general
Interesting daily events
News articles/link to some cool sites
Fav songs via YouTube
My thoughts on certain issues
Pictures that I really like for some reason
Advices/tips for incoming college students
Thanks taking your time to read my post, and I hope you will continue to do that in the future!
Sorry for the long post! It won’t be this long from next time, I promise :)
